Jamie McMurray won the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday – but it was his team that was the real big winner.

McMurray helped make auto racing history for team owner Chip Ganassi with his win at the NASCAR race at Indy, as it secured the “triple crown” of American oval racing for the team. Ganassi became the only owner to win the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400 in the same season.

At the Indianapolis 500 on May 30, Dario Franchitti brought Chip Ganassi Racing into victory lane, while McMurray won the season-opening Daytona 500 in his first start with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing on Feb. 14.

On Sunday, McMurray jumped out in front for the first time when he exited the pits first after a tire change during the last round of stops on lap 140. Sprint Cup Series points leader Kevin Harvick then took over the lead just prior to Juan Pablo Montoya hitting a wall, causing him to slide down and force the sixth and final caution.

The race was restarted with 11 laps remaining, and McMurray passed Harvick and finished in top spot, finishing 1.4 seconds ahead of Harvick to become the third driver to win the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 in the same season.

Greg Biffle finished third, while Clint Bowyer and Tony Stewart rounded out the top-five.
